INTEROFFICE MEMORANDUM

to; f im Bumcll
from: Janet Binns
subject: hlarr Mi e Ycar 9 ea .ling
date: 6/15/200
cr. Sandy Brown
Sandy called me from the field this morning and asked me to reply to Kent Crofts of IME regazding the
vegetation sampling plan for the Man Mine (permit C 1980-006). I took a very fast look through the 2005 Man
vegetation sampling report, received May 1, 2006. The plan itself looks fine and looks to be in agreement with
standard sampling procedures.
I did note that IME sampled the reclamation areas for cover and productivity at an earlier time than they
sampled the reference areas. The reference areas were not sampled until August and September, while
reclaimed azeas were sampled in eazly July and Mid-August. I spoke with Kent Crofts on the phone on June 15,
2006. I mentioned the disparity in sample timing between the reference areas and the reclaimed areas. He said
that something critical had happened in his schedule last year and he completed the sampling schedule as soon
as he was able. He plans to sample the reclaimed and reference areas as close together as possible this year. He
also stated that by sampling the reclaimed azeas earlier, it actually gives the reference areas additional
production time so if anything skews the data to favor the reference areas.
I did tell him that sampling plan looks OK but to sample the reference areas and reclaimed areas as close
together as possible.
