Long
Director, Division of Minerals 6 Geology
1313 Sherman St., F.oom 215
Denver CO 80203
Dear Mr. Long:
~_
_fy~
~~Yy
R~P^FI1/F(~
~ ~ 5 1996
Division 01 PvlineralS & Neology
We received a telephone. call at 3:30 P,M. yesterday from John Nelson at a
motel ir_ C~nrn City notifying us for the first time that the Division
intended to start remedial work on the East Pit on our property today. He
was vague concerning the details of the work to be performed.
lJe asked about how much money was remaining in the bond and if the Division
had ever settled with the previous contractor. Mr. Nelson said: "we have had
two arbitration sessions with the contractor. We finally paid him more thin
we should have, but we got that turkey out of here. He was really a problem
with all of the bad work." We consider these statements to be entirely
inappropriate and probably slanderous. However, the statements are a
condemnation of Mr. Nelson's own work as the supervisor of the project. If
the work was as 11ad as he indicates, what steps did Mr. Nelson take and what
documentation dfd he make when the work was in progress?
We would like to make two strong protests. We do not think that notice of
less than eighteen hours before commencement of work on our property with
less than specific details concerning the tasks is adequate. We believe that
Mr. Nelson should not be given any supervisory roles or other involvement in
any projects related to our property.
Sincerely,
~ ~~~
W.D.
