This initial notification was followed by required <br />written documentation on October 2, 2000 describing important details regarding the release. <br />As referenced in the notification letter. two water quality samples were collected in order to <br />provide water chemistry information on the release water and the water quality downstream <br />from the release in Piceance Creek. Enclosed are copies of laboratory analysis reports for <br />these two water samples. <br />The sample identified as L29208-01 "Pit @ pilot plant rd" was collected at 5:20 P. M. from the <br />temporary containment sump constructed to divert the flow of release water away from the <br />creek on the day of the release. The second sample, L29208-02 "Irrigation Diversion' was <br />collected the following day at 2:30 P.M. from Piceance Creek. The sample was collected <br />approximately 1!a mile downstream from the release in the vicinity of an established in•igation <br />diversion, Please note that the laboratory analysis report for each sample inadvertently shows <br />the time of sample cellection as A.M. instead of P. M. <br />Data obtained from the USGS stream flaw monitoring station (Piceance Creek blow Ryan Gulch, <br />near Rio Blanco, Colo., Station Number 09306200), just upstream of the release location <br />indicated a daily average flow of 5.3 cubic feet per second in Piceance creek on the day of the <br />release. <br />The calculated volume of the release was approximately 6,000 gallons. Given the volume of <br />flow in Piceance Creek, the effects of the release ere assumed to have been transient and <br />dispersion and dilution by water in the creek should have mitigated any possible locali2ed impact <br />from this release. <br />In addition to the operational changes implemented to prevent this type of release, mitigation <br />measures also included the excavation of the soil material contacted by the release water. <br />Delivering a Crystal Clear Advantage. <br />www.americansoda.com <br />Z00'd H9S~TT 00(47clBT <br />
