Introduction • This document is the decision package prepared by the Division of Minerals and Geology (the Division) for the King Coal Mine and the King II Mine. This document includes: I) the proposed decision to approve the permit revision application; 2) a summary which includes a history of the review of the permit revision application, a description of the envirorunent affected by the operation and a description of the mining and reclamation plan; and 3) the written findings of compliance the Division has made as required by the Colorado Surface Coal Mining Reclamation Act. Detailed information concerning the findings of compliance can be found in the Regulations of the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Boazd for Coal Mining. The Division has received an application for a permit revision to add to Permit C-81-035 the coal mining and reclamation operations of the King II Mine. The file number is Permit Revision 8 (PR- 8). Prior to PR-8, Permit C-81-35 included mining only at the King Coal Mine, located south of La Plata County Road 120. PR-8 adds 720 acres to the permit azea north of County Road 120, called the King II Mine. The application for PR-8 was submitted October I I, 2005, by National King Coal, LLC (NKC), the operator of the King Coal Mine and the King II Mine. The mines aze located on federal, state, and private lands in La Plata County, Colorado.
