7. Socioeconomics <br />Underthis alternative the Kind Coal mine would continue to operate for an addifional 253 years and <br />approximately 30=61 people would remain employed for those additional years. Over $x.300,000 <br />annually in payroll would continue to be spent for goods and services in the azea. Federal, State and <br />local governments would continue to share approximately $27,000 in tax revenues and $132,000 <br />in royalties. <br />Miners would be able to have well-paying jobs and live in their home towns. Local people <br />dependent upon coal for home heating would have a dependable local supply. Two tourist trains <br />important to the azea would have a local source of coal for their operation. <br />No indirect or cumulative impacts have been identified. <br />8. ,Paleontology <br />The coal-bearing formations that would be mined via this pmject area razely contain significant <br />museum-quality fossil resources (mostlyplants). Ifthese are encountered during the miningprocess, <br />they would be destroyed. If museum quality fossils aze encountered operations must halt and the <br />BLM will be notified immediately. <br />NO ACTION ALTERNATIVE <br />• Under Ylris alternative current production and land use would remain unchanged. The life of the <br />existing mine would end in approximately 6.3 years. Associated with the end of the mine would be <br />the subsequent loss to jobs and royalties currently provided by the mine. <br />V.
