V RECLAMATION PLANNING
The grasses and legiu[~s that were seeded in 1974 and listed in the Nucla Mine
reclamation plan are species that are adopted to the climatic conditions. Alfalfa
has been established and has been destroyed by rodents eating the crown and roots.
Sweet clover, a biennial, will be seeded ttx~ years so that these species will re-
seed itself every year. Crested wheatgrass has done well. As additional studies
reveal other species to be adopted they will be used.
Four-winged saltbush was seeded in 1974. Seed has not been readily available.
There has been some natural encroachment of this species. This species will
be used i[ore in the future.
FENCING;
Comnittments have been made to refence the areas to prevent grazing by live-
stock until the vegetative cover is established. Old fence lines will be used
where possible. Gates and/or cattle crossing will be installed where necessary.
