<br />A gravel pit owned by Delta County
<br />will be [he subject of a forrrial public
<br />hearing before the Mined•Land Recla-
<br />mation Board Wednesday, Aug, 27, in
<br />Glenwood Springs. The state will con-
<br />sider a possible Violation, Cease and
<br />Deist Order and cotTective actions, as
<br />well as civil penalties for mining out-
<br />side.the boundaries of the Ellison Pic
<br />The county is prepared to mspond to
<br />the charges with a survey of the gravel
<br />pit, the county commissioners reported
<br />Monday, Aug. 25.
<br />IF the operation of the gravel pit has
<br />extended beyond the permit's bound-
<br />aries, the commissioners believe it's
<br />because the county moved onto the next
<br />phase pf the operation before formal
<br />aoprov„I by the board. The county is
<br />applying fort permit For the surround-
<br />ing properly, also owned by the county,
<br />to avoid contusion in the future. The
<br />District [shop is located at the same
<br />site.
<br />Although the county could be fined
<br />between 31(X1 and 51,000 a day forthc
