Inspection attendees are listed in the
report. This report is being forwarded to your office in an effort to
improve coordination and communication between our two agencies.
It is our understanding that the Office of Surface Mining (OSM) and
CMLRD have conducted joint inspections of the Western Fuels - Deserado
Mine in the past. We have also become aware that CMLRD has been
conducting mine inspections without requesting our attendance.
As surface managing agency of the lands covered by the mine plan area,
we feel that the BLM should be represented at the inspection tours
conducted by OSM and/or CMLRD. In the past this has evidently not been
the case, and the lines of communication between BLM, OSM and CMLRD
have consequently broken down.
We would like to see these lines of communication reopened. We also
desire to be informed of, and represented at all mine inspection tours
in the future especially those involving surface facilities and
reclamation. This involvement is of upmost importance to us in
managing the subject and contiguous public lands.
CONSERVE
ENEROV
Save Energy and You Serve America!
