This area is on federal coal lease CDC-61209, and part of BRL's approved CDMG permit. BRL reported observing the rockslide on November 19, 2003. BRL noted that mining began in the D9 panel on November 10, and that a roof fall occurred in the underground mine on November 18. The timing of these events supports that the slide occurred as a result of ground movements associated with subsidence. The slide debris has blocked a portion of the Hubbard Canyon road on the National Forest. BRL has indicated their intent to make any restoration or repair measures needed. Given the current weather and road conditions, we do not believe it prudent to attempt clearing the debris at this time. We do however feel it necessary to post a sign on the Hubbard Canyon road alerting Forest users that the road is blocked. We have notified Jim Stover, BRL's consultant of this requirement. We expect that the needed restoration will be done in spring 2004, unless weather conditions permit an earlier time. ~o- Please contact Liane Mattson if you have any questions or need clarification.
