e
III IIIIIIIIIIIII III
1128195
~\~EO
~G o 95
~ ~~
Denver, Co.,80202 ~P~~ G ~00~
e~
Dear Mr. Ranney: o~~~e~a\s~
v~~'
O~
I am writing you in reguard to our conversation of 12116194, concerning
the damage to a wall in our home that I believe was caused by blasting at
the Western fuels coal mine in Nucla Colorado.
Harry Ranney
Office of Mined Land Reclamation
Division of Minerals 8~ Geology
1313 Sherman-- Room 215
The problem is in the living room on the south wall. Referring to
the pre blasting survey ~ 52 of July 29, 1992 ,page 4, "with the exception
of a small hairline mortar crack in the southwest corner of the brick
facing behind the stove, this room is otherwise clear."
Just shortly after the blasting started we noticed the start of a small
separation between the drywall and the corner stud, I reported this to
Lance Wade (a personal friend) and he told me to keep an eye on it and if
it got worse he would have someone come and inspect the house again.
This 1 did_ After several months the crack continued to grow in size. I
called Lance again and was told, he would have someone come inspect the
house. Several more months pasted and I called again and was told that he
was having someone come in to inspect several homes. Vibra- Tech
finally came July 20, 1994.
On page four of the report I quote "The alleged blast damage is a vertical
crack on the north wall of the living room that runs from the floor to the
beam at the ceiling. The crack is between two sheets of drywall,
maximum separation of 118"."
On page 5 of the report it says "The damage complaint is of a vertical
drywall crack that runs from beneath a ceiling beam to the floor. The
crack is between two sheets of drywall and appears to be a result of the
beam exerting pressure on the north wall of the living roam. The damage
is purely cosmetic and does not violate the structural integrity
of the home"
