~.
We may also test a small amount of this material to see if it provides necessary
fines (sand-sized particles) for soil amendment for reclamation, as discussed
below.
b. Approximate volume of material to be backfilled: Approximately 500
tons per year, at a unit weight of approximately 2300 Ibs/CY (1.15 tons~CY), or
435 CY per year.
c. This letter is a signed affidavit certifying that the material is clean and
inert, as defined in Rule 1.1(24).
d. Approximate dates the proposed activity will begin and end: Generally,
the backfilling will be done each year between 1 April and 1 November.
e. How the backfilled site will result in apost-mining configuration that is
compatible with the proposed post-mining land use: Since this is a sm~rll
quantity of material and will be buried relatively deeply in the quarries, 4he filling
will make no noticeable change in post-mining configuration, but will simply allow
a small amount of the quarry to have slightly higher post-mining contours than
would otherwise be possible. If suitable for use as a soil amendment, i1. will
improve reclamation and revegetation by providing fines needed for rooting zone
and "topsoil" seedbeds. The backfill and/or use as a soil amendment will not
impact on proposed post-mining land use.
f. General engineering plan stating how the material will be placed and
stabilized in a manner to avoid unacceptable settling and voids: Material will be
hauled into the pit as a backhaul using semi-tractors and trailers, and will be
dumped in windrows or stockpiles on the area to be backfilled. The material will
then be graded out using dozers, bucket loaders or graders, and may be mixed
with coarser native backfill material in order to provide for better compaction.
After compaction, additional backfill material will be placed over it and aigain
compacted. No settling or voids will be left, and in some cases, depencling on
condition of the surface on which the material is placed, the material meiy fill
voids which would otherwise be left.
I believe this answers all the questions that we are aware of, but if you leave
additional questions, please call or write me. If we do not receive an objection
from you within 30 days, we will proceed with this action.
RECEIVED
Sincerely,
MAR 2 01997
9rcicien ct Mincrarc a ~eowpy
Nathan A.
