(EEE} to prepaze a revised cost estimate for the
Henderson Overland Conveyor System. The original cost estimate was prepared in
December 1997, prior to construction. This technical memorandum and attachments
summarize the information, measurements, assumptions, calculations, and reference
materials used to prepaze the revised cost estimate.
Background
Climax Molybdenum Company and Fluor Daniel, Inc, provided (EEE) with a number of
design drawings of the overland conveyor system, including a plan view and profile of
the conveyor route, a typical cross-section of the conveyor housing, plan view and
sections of the drive house, and numerous detailed drawings of the bents and trusses for
the elevated portions of the conveyor system. Using real-life demolition cost data from
other mine sites in the U.S., including (1) the reclamation and decommissioning of the
Horizon Mine in Eddy County, New Mexico, (2) the Crystal Hill Mine in Saguache
County, Colorado, and (3) the Storke Area structures at Climax Mine in Colorado, a
revised cost estimate for the Henderson Conveyor System was prepared. In addition to
the data ar:d information mentioned above, EEE has had several recent conversations
with contractors involved in mine demolition projects for Phelps Dodge Corporation and
other mining companies. The Henderson conveyor drawings, EEE's personal
experiences at Phelps Dodge sites, and the resources and knowledge of demolition
contractors at other mines, have all been integrated to develop the revised cost estimates
provided in this technical memorandum.
Ellis Environmental Engineering, Inc.
4342 Ulysses Way
Golden, Colorado 80403
