CO 80203
Division of Minerals & Geology
RE: TWENTYMII.E COAL COMPANY, NOTICE OF INTENT, 1997 DRILLING
Dear Mr. Burnell:
Twentymile Coal Company (TCC) is herein submitting a Notice of Intent Application to drill up to eleven
(1 I) coal exploration sites in Sections 13, l4, I6, 21, 25, 26, 27, and 28 of Township 5 Norte, Range 86
West, 6'" P.M., Routt County, Colorado. All but one of the sites are located within the curtentiy approved
permit boundary for Permit No. C-82-056. I[ is TCC's understanding that the NOI permitting mechanism
may be utilized in [his instance. TCC has planned the proposed drilling activities to minimize the
disturbed acreage involved by limiting the size of the drill pads and using preexisting access roads to the
extent possible.
A bond calculation has been provided for the proposed drilling program. Table 3 of the following
appliption has been labeled "Co~dential" due to the sensitive nature of the drill hole depths specked.
TCC appreciates your cooperation in maintaining the confidentiality of this information. Please review
the enclosed application and contact me as soon as possible with any questions or concerns you may have.
After you've had a chance to review the bond calculation, TCC will take the appropriate steps to secure
the required bond.
As we've discussed, it is TCC's desire to obtain approval for this project as soon as possible. TCC is
willing to accept stipulations pertaining to the completion of cultural resources clearance work and
surface access documentation in order to facilitate approval of the application and allow drilling activities
to be initiated. As of this date, cultural resources clearance surveys are expected to be completed by July
I1 and rnmmunications with landowners have been initiated to secure surface access at the two sites
where it is currently lacking. Thank you for your cooperation and assistance in this matter.
TWENTYMILE COAL COMPANY
Karl C. Koehler
Environmental Engineer
Enclosures
ce: 1997 NOI file
