20.0 REVEGETATION <br />20.1 DESCRIPTION <br />This specification covers preparing the areas for seeding, furnishing seed, (if required), <br />furnishing fertilizers, mulch and/or mulch stabilizers on all areas disturbed by the <br />CONTRACTOR during project work or areas designated in the Special Conditions to be <br />revegetated. The CONTRACTOR is responsible for revegetatirig all areas disturbed during <br />installation of closure elements, or during backfilling of a mine opening or other <br />reclamation work. Revegetation must be factored into the bid for closure of each <br />opening/area, unless a specific bid item for revegetation is included in the bid. <br />20.2 MATERIALS <br />Seed <br />The CONTRACTOR must give the PROJECT MANAGER at least five (5) working days <br />notice of the acreage to be seeded, so the PROJECT MANAGER can deliver the proper <br />amount of seed. <br />Fertilizers <br />Commercial Fertilizer. Fertilizers shall be commercial grade diammonium phosphate <br />(18-46-01 and free flowing, suitable for application with hydraulic- or pneumatic-type <br />equipment or fertilizer spreaders and conforming to applicable Colorado State Fertilizer <br />laws. Caked or lumpy fertilizer will not be accepted. The CONTRACTOR shall furnish a <br />supplier's certificate of analysis and weight. All fertilizer shall be in a form readily available <br />to plants. Commercial fertilizer shall be applied at the rate of 300 pounds per acre. <br />Manure. Fertilizer shall be dry cow, horse or sheep manure that has been stockpiled a <br />minimum of one 11) year, Manure shall not be so caked or lumpy that it cannot be spread <br />uniformly. The CONTRACTOR shall furnish weight tickets from a certified scale. Manure <br />shall be applied at the rate of 30 tons per acre. <br />Mulches <br />Mulch shall consist of hay or straw mulch, pest-free or weed-free to the extent possible. <br />Approximately 30 percent by weight of the mulch material shall be ten inches (10") in <br />length or longer. Rotted, caked, decayed or moldy material will not be accepted. Hay or <br />straw mulch shall be applied uniformly at the rate of two (2) tons per acre. Hydromulch <br />shall be applied at the rate of one and a half (1 1/21 tons per acre. <br />20.3 EXECUTION <br />The CONTRACTOR shall give the PROJECT MANAGER at least two (2) days notice of the <br />time and place of starting his revegetation operations and shall continue to advise as to the <br />schedule of operations. Revegetation may take place at the completion of work at an <br />individual opening if the CONTRACTOR so desires. <br />18 <br />
