Mine No. 2
OF CQ~
ti~,=~ Q9
hP%' ~ ~' O
~ ,~ r,c ~ .
~ `~;x ~y7„N ~
~ /876 ~
Roy Romer,
Governor
Michael 6. Long,
Division Director
Today I received a call from Barbara Strapman who owns the land the O.C.
Mine is on. She said that she received the MLRD letter notifying of the
permit renewal. She wanted to know more about the mine and the
Division's role in regulating activities at the mine. She was concerned about
the public safety and about tourist getting into trouble at the closed down
O.C. Mine. Also, she was concerned about the mine being abandoned
without reclamation. She was concerned that Bob Weaver would not have
enough money to do the reclamation. She said that she would like to
accompany the Division on the next inspection.
I said that Bob Weaver is required by law to maintain liability insurance
throughout the 10 year liability period. That we would make sure that the
mine site was gated, appropriate warning signs placed and the portals
secured from unauthorized entry. That Bob Weaver is required to comply
with all MLRD regulations and that the reclamation bond be kept at an
amount equal to the reclamation liability. And that we would try to get Bob
Weaver to clean up some of the material on site to reduce the liability if he
could not increase the bond amount.
I told her that the Division is out at the mine on a quarterly basis and would
notify her of the next inspection.
Mrs. Barbara Strapman, Mr. Mac Strapman
Phone: 641-0038, 641-0032, Their address is in the file.
They live on Ohio Creek Road just down from the mine.
