<br />CHAPTERTWO Proposed Action and Alternatives ' <br />2.6 SUMMARY IMPACT COMPARISON OF ALTERNATIVES <br />Table 2-9 presents a summary of impacts by alternative based on the impacts analysis by <br />resource discipline presented in Chapter 4. Quantitative comparisons aze given v~here available <br />and appropriate. In other cases, qualitative comparisons aze made. This table allows the reader <br />and decision-maker to weigh impacts and to compaze and contrast them, by discipline, across <br />alternatives. ' <br />2.7 AGENCY PREFERRED ALTERNATIVE <br />In accordance with NEPA, federal agencies aze required by the Council on Environmental <br />Quality (40 CFR 1502.14) to identify their prefered alternative in the EIS. The ~~referred <br />alternative is not a final agency decision but provides an indication of the agency's preliminary <br />preference. This preference may be changed in the Final EIS or the ROD based on additional <br />information provided and/or obtained during the public review periods. <br />Based on scoping comments and additional data that have been collected and ant~lyzed for the <br />EIS, the BLM preferred alternative for the Yankee Gulch Sodium Minerals Project is the <br />Proposed Action. , <br />1 <br /> <br /> <br />r <br /> <br />r <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />2-38 <br />
