Price
Reclamation Specialist
Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Division
215 Centennial Building
1313 Sherman Street
Denver, Colorado 80203
RE:
Dear Mr Price:
iiiiiiiiiiiiiiuiii
999
Cyprus Orchard Valley Mine
P.O. Box 1299
Paonia, CO 81428
Phone:303-527-4135
Fax: 303-527-2234
Please be advised that on Auqust 6, 1991, a meeting was held between
representatives of ~VCC, the Bureau of Land Management, and Mr. N.W. Grosse-
Rhode regarding the establishment of a livestock trail intended to provide
livestock access around the OVWM portal site. At that time, an acceptable route
for all parties was delineated and targeted for development as a livestock trail.
The proposed trail utilizes the south side of the Orr-hazrl Valley West Mine fill
slope as indicated on the enclosed map and thereby minimizes the disturbance
required on adjacent sideslopes to complete the project alternative, a new trail
located below the fill slope. Verbal concurrence to utilize the fill slope in
this manner was obtained from CMCRD prior to the aforementioned meeting. This
letter serves as formal notification to the CM[RD with regard to the location and
projected use of this trail. The maximum projected use entails approximately 200
head of cattle travelling across the site twice per year. Associated
intermittent horseback or ATV traffic is anticipated as well.
NVCC intends to carefully monitor that portion of the trail traversing the fill
slope to ensure that the appropriate performance standards are met ar-d the
topsoil resource is adequately protected. OOVCC does not believe the proposed
intermittent use of the trail poses a significant long term threat to the
preservation and use of the resouroe.
The proposed trail is scheduled for construction upon resolution of the surface
access issue currently pending with Mr. Grosse-Rhode. CMLRD will be notified
prior to the commencement of construction activities as to the specific dates
involved. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. If you have any
questions or require any further information, please contact me at 303-527-4135.
CYPRUS ORCHARD VALLKS( COAL C
~~~ ~~~
.•
Karl. C.
