I live at 16400 Tucson
Street and am located adjacent south of the current Aggregate pit.
My main concern is the health condition of my faznily. My brother and I have severe emphysema, which
has gotten worse in the last three years. The doctors say the dust is a major factor contributing to our
declining health.
There is another gravel company (Apex) with a permit to mine 59 acres across the street from me. They
1><1ve said they will use the latest techniques to keep the dust down, but will two comp<vties working at the
same time produce an acceptable amount of dust? Apex lias applied for 100 trucks a day on Tucson Street
and Weld County Road 2. Will Aggegate also be using Tucson and Road 2? I wotdd IIlce to laiow how
they will keep the dust in control. What type of equipment will they use? Will the amotmY of dust and
envitromnenkll factors be monitored and if so, by whoin?
The noise factor is also a cottsideradon. Wltat hours will they be worknzg and will they have the latest
teclmology to elimhtate the backup beeps that are so annoying? Once again, who monitors the noise
pollution that comes from the muting opemtions such as these?
I atn also concerned about my pioperry. I have already lost 27 old large trees on my properly and more are
dead dtis year, The drought tray have contributed to the Inse slightly, brit I feel that dte mining is a major
reason. These trees 1><1ve been here for decades and only since the mining has sklted have so many died.
Since water migrates from southwest and they will be minhng that area, I'm concerned about my domestic
well which I use~YO~watertdi my farm animals. Apex'Itas indicated thaYthe'y w11`put'iti a sliu•ry wall to the
west of me. Aggregate lots a slurry wall to the north of me. What effectwill tYte mining to the south tmcl
southwesf of me have on my water usage?
Aggregate currently has a pond that adjoins my property on the e~tist and it ltas a 20 foot drop and only a
small berm and my fence. This was not intended to shield my grandchildren and farm animals from
anything that damgerotis. This fence is not adequate enough for safety. The pond is also green attd brackish
and a breeding ground for mosquitoes. This is a big concern because of West Niles. Before Aggregate is
approved for more ttuning, I feel they shotdd cleanup the property they have already mined and make it
safer.
I would like to be able to live on my four acres surrounded by lakes, wetlands; trees and the creahues [hat
have been displaced by the permission given to llte mining companies, but from observing the results of the
ntitting pits along the Platte River, I am no optimistic.
I am requesting fltat you reconsider the mining applications along Tucson Street and Higlnvays 2 and 7.
The deferiomting health of my brother and myself cansed'the by operations of the companies as well as dte
damage already inflicted to my property should at least, cause you tb pause and perhaps limit the use of
these companies abilities to mine Otis area.
Sincerely,
Maz-ilyn Kent ~~~/~
16400 Tucson Street
Brighton, CO 80601

ll_~~~~~
EIVED
AUG 0 9 2004 z-~
Division ~f Minerals and Geology
