While the hydrologic control system as set
forth in our respective mining plans contained much detail on
flows and channel capacities, etc., the designs were basically
conceptual in nature. As we began to do the :.•urveying and field
work necessary t,o begin construction, we realized that the place-
ment of the diversion ditch as depicted on the contour maps
submitted as a part of our plan will have ttie potential of causing
additional visual impact. As you know, CWI has been very sensitive
to ttie effects of our mining operation on the local community and
as a result, we decided to explore the possi'uility of moving the
drainage ditci> to a slightly lower elevation thus lessening the
visual icapact of the drainage ditch. We feel that we have
accomplished this by placing the drainage ditch at a level just
above the existing uppermost bench, i'his location, while offering
the saiue safety features as the location which was slightly higher,
will serve to substantially reduce the visual impact by utilizing
an area which has already been disturhed.
The upper basin diversion channel as originally planned,
was to be located at approximately the 7000 foot contour line.
imnnn cmu
~ i•.f npry.
