ID-9 Mine Report
Geoscience Services
Table 3 provides sorption coefficients for the analytes of interest (units are cubic meters
per kilogram). Most of the analytes aze mobile but exhibit some degree of sorption in
sands and clays that aze typical of the geologic material in the area.
Table 3: Sorption Coefficients (Kd) for selected analytes based on relevant geologic
material (after Sheppard and Thibault,1990)
Analyte Sand (m /kg) Clay (m /kg)
Aluminum Not available Not available
Arsenic Not available Not available
Lead 0.27 0.55
Selenium 0.15 0.74
Uranium 0.035 0.60
Zinc 0.20 0.40
5.0 Results
Results of the contaminant transport modeling for the migration of uranium and
selenium are presented in Figures 2 and 3. The resulting contaminant plumes aze
overlain on the geologic cross section for the SM-18 mine area. The geology for JD-9
mine is similar to the SM-18 mine with the notable exception of the shales and
9
