approximately 3 feet high on the slopes of the refuse disposal
area, and higher along the reclaimed channel. The reclaimed area
provides excellent forage for mule deer due to the abundance of
grasses and browse, and the presence of adjacent cover provided by
the surrounding pinyon-juniper woodland. Deer are frequently
jumped from bedding areas along the channel during inspections, and
both deer and elk sign is abundant throughout the site during the
winter months.
Restoration of what had previously been a scarred landscape, and
essentially a waste area, to a visually appealing, erosionally
stable, productive postmining habitat, is what reclamation is all
about, and it has been accomplished at Red Canyon.
rcan\cmanom.95
