STATE OF COLORADO • _ ___
Richard D. Governor III III III III IIII III
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES M
DIVISION OF WILDLIFE 999
Jack R. Grleb, Director 6060 Broadway
Denver, Colorado 60216 (825-1192)
March 23, 1982
TO: Brad James
Mined Land Reclamation Staff RECEIVED
FROM: C.J. Grand Pre q
Wildlife Program Specialist
^R 24 1982
RE: Flatiron Sand and Gravel/Deepe Form Pit 1
# 81-302 MINED LAND RECLAMATION
Colo. Dept. of Natlral Resources
Personnel from the Colorado Division of Wildlife have reviewed the above
cited proposal and find it to be very good. It is most refreshing to see
a reclamation plan designed to have a positive impact upon wildlife.
In a recent conversation you inquired about the probability of a mosquito
problem arising from the construction of shoal areas and wetlands within
the confines of a gravel pit. We can only state that to date, reclamation
of this nature has not resulted in any known conflict. It is highly
unlikely the construction of a gently sloped shoreline would promote an
insect investation.
If is our belief the many bird species that would inhabit the restored
area would provide ample control over resident insect populations. Further-
more, if a fish stocking/management program is proposed, this would provide
an additional insect control measure.
The Division of Wildlife will provide assistance to anyone who requests our
involvement with their fisheries program. This assistance may be in the
- form of technical advice or actual stocking of lakes if the landowner is
willing to allow public fishing.
If we can be of further assistance, please feel free to call 825-1192.
CJG:jb
cc: NE Region
file
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES,Monte Pascoe,Executive Director•WILDLIFE COMMISSION,Donald Fernandez.Chairman
James Smith,Vice Chairman• Richard Divelbiss,Secretary•Jean K.Tool,Member•James C.
