samples. Production vakits on the two rec{ainxd areas were more variable titan on the Pasture
' Reference Area. Sample adequacy was achieved after clipping 36 samples on the Mine I
Reclaimed Area and 27 samples on the Eckman Park Reclaimed Area.
Density calculations were based upon the resulting total `'drv" weights. The mean production
density standard for the vear 2000 sampling event, established on the Pastore Reference Area, is
!,068.10 lbs./acre. The estimated production density on each reclaimed area is much greater
' than the standard set by the reference area. The mean production density on the Mine 1 and
Eckman Park Reclaimed Areas is 1,976.50 and 2,327.31 lbs./acre, respectively. The production
values on each reclaimed area easily exceeds the 90% standard required when compared to the
' reference area data.
Species Diversity - 2000
' Analysis of the vegetative cover for life-forms present across all sampled areas indicates the
Pasture Reference Area and Eckman Park Reclaimed Area is dominated by perennial grasses;
' 80.41 percent relative cover on the Pasture Reference Area and 53.05 percent relative cover on
the Eckman Park Reclaimed Area. Perennial fortis have the highest relative cover value on the
Mine 1 Reclaimed Area at 54.81 percent. Species abundance on the two reclaimed areas varies
slightly. Alfalfa represents 41.73 percent of the relative cover on the Mine 1 Reclaimed Area.
followed by smooth brome (16.54 percent), cicer milkvetch (11.35 percent), and Western
wheatgrass (9.04 percentj. Cicer milkvetch has the greatest relative cover value on the Eckman
Park Reclaimed Area at 27.92 percent, followed by smooth brome (15.53 percent), alfalfa (10.65
percent), and orchardgrass (8.03 percent). The species diversity standard for vegetative cover is
achieved on both reclaimed areas since no single species represents greater than 75 percent
' relative cover. Table A-3 summarizes the majority of species sampled in the reclaimed area
with their corresponding relative cover.
' A complete list of all vegetative species encountered dwing the 2000 sampling event, including
scientific names, is presented on Table A-11.
Perennial grasses represent the highest percentage of relative production on each sampled area;
97.20 percent on the Pasture Reference Area, 56.52 and 57.65 percent on the Mine land
Eckman Park Reclaimed Areas, respectively. The values on the reclaimed areas easily satisfies
' the permit standard that perennial grasses represent at least 25 percent of the relative production.
The remaining species diversity standard established in the permit, that alfalfa represent no more
than 7> percent of the relative production. is also achieved. Alfalfa has a relative production
' value of 29.74 percent on the Mine 1 Reclaimed Area and 15.10 percent on the Eckman Park
Reclaimed Area. For a detailed swnmary of absolute and relative cover for all species detected
during the 2000 sampling event, refer to Tables A-5, A-7 and .4-9.

1
\--I
