3 .,.~
4.05.13 Surface and Ground Water Monitoring
(1) Ground Water
• Revised:04/07/89
Water depth will be monitored in wells 30C and 33B
twice annually. Monitoring will be conducted after the
spring runoff, in conjunction with the rill and gully
inspection, and at the end of the summer, in conjunction
with the vegetative cover sampling. Walden Coal Company
will examine the reclaimed area for springs and seeps.
A report containing the data collected will be
submitted to the Division no later than January 31 of the
following year.
Samples will be taken from these wells with a grab
sampler if there is sufficient water. The sampler will
be rinsed three times (if there is adequate water) with
well water before each sample is taken. Five hundred
milligrams of water will be taken from each well and sent
to the laboratory for analysis. All analyses will be
performed using standard E.P.A. procedures. The sampled
water will tested for pH, SAR, total dissolved solids
(TDS), sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron, lead,
chloride, bicarbonate, and sulfate.
(2) Surface Water
Walden Coal Company will no longer monitor surface
water at the Bourg Mine. The surface water quality
monitoring requirements will be met through annual rill
and gully inspections and vegetative cover monitoring.
