• MINING AND RECLAMATION PLAN
` MT. GUNNISON NO. 1 MINE
i,
Miscellaneous Sediment Control Facilities
~~
October, 1979
Revised February, 1981
Revised September 8, 1981
Revised December 21, 1981
The area around the wastewater treatment plant has been treated independently of
the other surface facilities. The wastewater treatment plant is located too low on
the site to enable storm flows in this area to be ditched or piped to MB No. 3 and
was thus designed with a separate sediment control pond.
This facility was sized for the,10-year, 24-hour storm event and 0.1 acre feet of
developed sediment per acre of disturbed area. The facility is shown in Exhibit
3.1.1.D Drawing 7. Overflow from this facility will flow directly to the North Fork
of the Gunnison River.
The railroad loadout facility has also been treated independently of the other
surface facilities. The loadout is located across the river from the other surface
facilities and therefore must have its own sediment control. The sediment control
is a pond designed (sized) fora 10-year, 24-hour storm event. The design detail for
this pond can be found in Exhibit 3.1,1.D Drawing SC, 6A and 6B pages 90C, 91A,
91 B, and Letter 3.3.1.A.
General Requirement$ for Sedimentation Control Facilities
All storm drainage/sediment control ponds have been designed in accordance with
the requirements of Part 817 - Permanent Program Performance Standards -
Underground Mining Activities, as described in Federal Register, Vol. 44, No. 50,
Tuesday, March 13, 1979. In addition, all inspection, construction and maintenance
procedures are to conform to the requirements of this publication.
Basis for Design of FW No. 1
Freshwater Pond No. l (FW f/1) has been designed to provide two months storage
capacity for potable and domestic water uses. This pond has a
..;:r
3-46b
