This application was submitted to the Division of
Minerals and Geology by Trapper Mining [nc. for their Trapper Mine in Colorado.
We have reviewed the application and find that it was filed in a timely fashion and that it meets all [he
requirements outlined in your letter dated April 3, 1997. [n addition, we would like [o urge your
favorable review and ultimate forwarding of the application to Headquarters for final consideration.
We have long been supportive of Trapper's efforts towards design and implementation of innovative
sediment and erosion conVOl practices, as well as the establishment of successful wildlife habitat through
their training and reclamation practices. Recognition of these efforts and results in 1991 by OSM was very
appropriate. Since that time, Trapper has continued and increased their efforts to develop and implen}ent
sedinent and erosion control practices and wildlife habitat improvements which result in outstanding
reclamation. We recently recognized their outstanding work through the award of a 1996 Colorado
Mining Reclamation Award. Trapper was presented with this award by Governor Roy Romer and
\Villiam Cohan, Chairman of the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Board a[ the February 1997 National
\Vestern Mining Conference in Denver. We wholeheartedly believe that Trapper deserves national
recognition for their continued outstanding reclamation.
Please do not hesitate to contact me or my staff if we can provide any additional inforn}ation in support of
OSM's consideration of the Trapper application.
Sincerely,
~- ~~-
Susan McCannon
Coal Program Supervisor
cc: ~Xoseph Dudash, DMG
Forrest Luke, Trapper Mining [nc.
