General Architectural Description: The mine superintendent's residence (Structure 2) is a 2K-story <br />Victoneq Queen Anne style wood frame structure that measures 24 by 30 feet, oriented east to west, with a 6-foot- <br />wide shed addition across the west side. The residence wee constructed iq 1903 and served in later years as the <br />mine office. The building is constructed on a eemicoursed shaped native atone end cement mortar foundation. The <br />ground floor of the structure ie covered with narrow clapboard ending with plain eodboards and moat of the windows <br />are one over one double hung wood sash with plain board moldings. The second floor is slightly bell caste and <br />overhangs the first floor slightly; it ie covered with shingle siding. It has a steeply pitched composition shingle hip <br />roof with a gabled projection on the north eqd oC the west elevation. The gable end is filled with shiplap siding end <br />contains a one over one double hung window. The eaves oC the roof ere supported by decorative waodea brackets. <br />Cabled donnere project through the hip roof on the south and seat aides; these are relatively recent additions to the <br />building. An exterior brick chimney is present oq the seat end oC the south elevation. This hee flegkigg gabled roof <br />ettechmente where it projects through the hip roof. The mein facade oC the structure is on the east aide. The main <br />entry to the building is eitueted right of center within a recessed porch that is reached by steps from the north. The <br />porch end steps ere enclosed by a railing that hee turned poste end beluatere. The door ie one light over two <br />vertical wood panels and hee a transom above. To the right oCthe door, within the porch, ie a peaked two light fixed <br />window. An identical window is on the north and of the elevation to the right aC the porch. A projecting bey window <br />is present to the left oC the entry porch. This wntaine three one over one double hung wood sash windows with <br />wooden panels below each window. The panels ere filled with vertical tongue and groove aiding with that of the <br />central penal in a herringbone pattern that meeting in a central diamond shape. The door end windows on the <br />ground floor of the seat elevation ell have stepped moldings above. The entire ground Moor level is covered by a <br />shed roof et the second floor level supported by decorative wooden brackets. Two banks of three one over one double <br />hung wood sash windows are present in the second floor level. A rear entry ie present on the west end of the south <br />elevation, within e 9 by 9 foot recessed corner porch. The floor end ceiling oC the porch ie covered entirely with <br />beaded tongue and groove boards. The door within the porch hee a transom above. A set of wooden steps rune <br />along the west side oC the building leading to a second floor ontrance. Tho wooden elope hevo bean onclosed bye 6- <br />foot-wide two story high shed addition that covers the entire west aide oC the building. The roof oC the addition hee <br />been rnnetructed eo that it fits around elemonte of the original roof, leaving the original roof intact. Another <br />doorway is through the center of the addition beneath the steire. In front oC Strvcture 2, en old air•powered mining <br />dell is on display. <br />FUNCTION <br />Y3.
