Box 225
Florence,Colorado 81226
RE: Revegetation Plan for Cherokee/Pittsburgh Lease - Phase I
Dear Li:
Enclosed are the soils analysis tests from CSU Soils Lab and a species
list of the main plants growing in the general area known as Phase I
and revegetation recommendations.
SOILS
A sample of the material that will be used as a plant medium was taken
from three locations below the highwall area shown on Map 8. The three
samples were mixed together and the combination was sent in for analysis
(Soils Exhibit 1 }.
The results of the analysis indicates the spoil material has a low Ph
of 3.7, and a high salt content of 3.0 mmhos/cm, which will make a seeding
recommendation very difficult. From these results I would recoimnend that
trial plots be used with different species that are drought resistant
and tolerant to acid soil. I have listed below species that can tolerate
an acid soil and those species that are drought resistant.
Acid Tolerant Grasses
Hard Fescue
Red Fescue
Switch Grass
Lespedeza clover
Weeping love grass
Draught Tolerant
Pubescent Wheat
Streambank wheat
Indian Rice grass
Sand Dropseed
Hard Fescue
Crested Wheatgrass
