Beavers
Mined Land Reclamation Division
423 Centennial Bldg.
1313 Sherman Street
Denver, CO 80203
Re: 76-32
Dear Mr. Beavers:
This is in reply to your letter of May 10, 1984.
We probably have exceeded the 14 acres. Our estimate of the pit area
is 11.3 acres and the shop area 2.7 which exactly equals the 14.0 acres. However,
this is not precise and we have gone slightly outside this area to pile topsoil,
etc. A copy of the reduced map that we prepared yesterday is enclosed for your
reference.
We do not operate in the San Miguel River. We do remove gravel bars
that are washed in during flooding.
We believe we have sufficient topsoil on hand for reclamation and we
can develop and stockpile more if required.
We agree it would be appropriate to increase the surety bond by a
reasonable amount. However, we think $10,000 should be adequate since we have
already reclaimed several acres.
We would appreciate the opportunity to meet with you or someone on your
staff and go over the pit and our future plans. The contact you made last year
was with an employee who is no longer with us. Our Manager in Telluride is Gary
Bennett. He has been there from the inception of the operations and has never had
any contact with your agency.
In view of the above, we request a thirty day extension to resolve these
problems so that you are not required to issue a cease and desist order.
Sincer y,
i
G ,CCU /~~~G~-"
Peter Ballode, President
ANIMAS AGGREGATES, INC.
PB/pm
