6.0 RECLAMATION PLAN
r
The following sections provide information and specifications for the
reclamation of the site as landfilling is completed. However, the envi ron-
mental conditions including climate, exposure, and soi ls at the site are very
harsh and will make successful reclamation difficult to achieve. For this

reason, we have recommended the application of a mini mum of 2.6 feet of top-
cover over the landfill rather than the CDH required minimum of 2 feet, In
addition, more extensive reclamation measures have been recormmended for the
north and south slopes of the landfill as these areas are considered crit ical
areas in terms of exposure and erosion.

. 6.1 SURFACE DRAINAGE
After landfilling and reclamation are complete, a permanent drainage
ditch should be constructed above the slope situated along the southern bound-
ary of the landfill. This ditch will reduce the amount of water flowing over
the slope, thus reducing the potential for erosion. A shallow retention pond
with approximately 60,000 square feet of surface area and 2 feet of depth
should be constructed on the eastern terrace to receive the outflow from the
drainage ditch. The retention pond has been designed with sufficient capacity
to allow water to evaporate between precipitation events. However, water
contained in the pond can be used to irrigate the slope along the southern
boundary of the landfill after completion of reclamation operations. Plate 3
shows the locations of the permanent drainage ditch and retention pond. ATso
shown is a drainage cross section for the ditch. Appendix D contains dis-
charge, storage capacity, and channel design calculations.
-36-
