Golden Eagle Mine
NW-1 Exhaust Ventilation Shaft Construction
~~
75.200 Roof Control Plan Amendment
General Description:
The NW-1 shaft will be constructed by raise boring to the full
diameter of 9 feet 3 inches and lined to approximately 8 feet.
The shaft will be located in the bleeder entries of the
Northwest longwall panels.
Preparation:
The shaft bottom area will be developed with a continucus
miner as part of the mine development and supported with fully
resin grouted 8 foot roof bolts. To facilitate the assembly
of the raise head, the shaft bottom will require an excavation
approximately 12 feet x 12 feet x 8 feet high (minimum). The
excavation will be accomplished by continuous miner. The top
of the excavation will be bolted with mechanical roof bolts
(specifications located in the approved Roof Control Plan).
The rcof bolt pattern for the top of the raise head assembly
area will be 4 feet by 4 feet with 5 foot roof bolts. The
mechanical roof bolts and plates will require removal prier to
rearning. Removal of the mechanical bolts will be accomplis'r.ed
by setting a prop immediately adjacent to the belt prior to
its removal. The props will be set on the reamer head and
will fall out when the reamer head is rotated6. The
installation and removal of the roof bolts will be from
beneath supported roof. The brow at each approach will be
knocked off, creating a air sweep. The anticipated dimensions
are less than 2 feet vertical by 2 feet horizontal.
Drawing attached (Roof Bolt Pattern - Raise Head Assembly
Area).
Shaft Excavation:
During the excavation or reaming phase, the shaft bottom will
contain cuttings to be removed by diesel scoops or continuous
miner and shuttle cars. The minimum distance from the
vertical shaft wall to the operator will be 8 feet. This will
prevent the raise bore from becoming muck bound and eliminate
the operator from exposure to falling cuttings. The cuttings
will not be allowed to accumulate in the shaft bottom. T':e
cuttincs :gill be permanently stored underground near the shaft
bottom (identified on map). iJo combustible material (coal)
will be stockpiled underground. To prevent interrupting
ventilation. in the stockpile areas, the muck viii net be
ailcwed to roof out.
~~
revised i!13/91 ~~AROvF_D CMS ~ H ~~,-~:; a ,; ~~ ~
A1Fi-i Exha*~st Shaft 1
