United States Soil 15 Wilcox Street
Department of Conservation Castle Rock, CO 80104
Agriculture Service (303) 688-342
March 3, 1989 RECEIVED
' Ron Allingham MAR s~~
Tuttle Applegate Rindahl, Inc,
11990 Grant Street, Suite 410
Denver, CO 80233
' Dear Ron:
Enclosed are the vegetative inventories and seeding recommendations for
the Hallett Materials project on the Winkler property in Douglas County.
On February 27, 1989, Mike Applegate provided access for me to actually
' visit the site. At that time it was difficult to see the total
vegetative composition, since the grass had been quite heavily grazed.
The attached inventory covers the major species; I am sure there are
others which were not apparent, due also to the time of year.
' If possible, I would like to do another inventory in June, when the
grass is actively growing. The list of plants would probably be
expanded at that time, although it would be unlikely that it would
result in a change in the seeding recommendation.
' The seed mix is based on what was observed, what should be there and on
what will grow reasonably well et this location. All the grasses are
native species. The recommended time of seeding is from October 15 to
May 1, as long as the ground is not frozen. If a 20 acre parcel is
' completed end ready for reseeding outside these dates, a cover crop of
oats, sorghum or Sudan grass should be considered, to provide temporary
erosion control until the grass can be planted.
' Topsoil should be stockpiled and stabilized, unless it will be
stockpiled less than three months. Stabilization may be accomplished by
mulching, erosion control fabrics, or temporary seedings.
' Also enclosed are the Soil Conservation Service Standards end
Specifications for the practices of Critical Area Planting, Mulching and
' Cover Crop. We recommend these items be included in the reclamation
plan.
If yeu have any questions, or need more information, please feel free to
call.
Sincerely,
i j~~.c ~~~y? ce-~.,,
curie B.
