Within a month or so
we should have it all shaped up and at least part of the rip-rap placed
along the bank. After the danger of high water has passed and it appears
that the water will stay low, we will proceed to cover the bank, as well
as the rip-rapping with top soil. The present plan is to wait until fall
to plant the native grasses on the bank and the top of the berm, as well
as plant cottonwood trees on the top of the bank.
We have just about completed the buffer zone between our pond and Mr.
Slovek's pond to the east. It is about 75 feet wide and we will also
put top soil on it and establish native grasses on it this fall. In both
cases we are taking care to ensure that we are keeping the banks at their
original elevation.
We still have not received the 404 Permit from the Corps of Engineers for
this operation; however I have been in contact with the Omaha Office and
they are proceeding on this as rapidly as possible. The delay seems to be
in getting coordination and agreement from the various government agencies
with interest in this operation.
We actually began mining gravel with our dra9line from our pit on May 11,
1981. Top soil has been stripped and piled in accordance with the reclam-
ation plan. I anticipate that we will be mining from Play through fJovember
in this pit.
If you have any questions, please call me.
Sincerel ,
ayne S. Sm th
Director of Engineering
ucc .tea
