A schematic of the tower is presented In Figure 5. The tower was packed with at3otn 3m of either
50 or 75mm plastic media. The influent distribution system consisted of a ceramic multiple weir trough
assembly and a demister. The media was supported by a multiple beam ceramic gas injection plate. The
stripping column was about 0.5m In dtameter and 6m In height. The parameters investigated included mass
transfer efficiency, media size, air to liqukf ratios, flooding characteristics, cyanide removal efti~iencies, and
' required packing height.- A summary of the tower performance is presented in Tabfe 9.
TAB1J= 4
PILOT PLANT STRIPPER TOWER TEST RESULTS

Test Run No. ~ t 2 ~ 7 ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ 5 ~ ~ ~ 6 7 6 ~ ~ ~ ~.
Shirty Fb~jj hr) 2.77 2.77 1.94 . 2.17 254 2.1 2.21 2.73 279
Air Fbw (m'/hr1 645 043 679 B79 B39 2126 2126 14&1 1400
No. of Tower Pusea 1 1 1 _ 1 -. 1 1 1 1 2 --
_
AirJL.{quld Ret1o ~' ~~~~--737 737 432 767 330 7012 962 is 637 506
InOuenl WAD CN" 182 162 156 166.4 166,4 1924 192.1 197.6 19.1
Effluent WAO CN" 76.6 24,5 45.1 23.5 22.7 73 13.7 18.3 5.6
Tact Run No.
-
- 9 10 11 12 13
Slurry Fb
w;mT 27e 245 4.1 4.0 4.1T 4.0 3.6 3.7 S.0 4.8
Air Fbw (m !tv) 1815 1615 2177 2137 2561 2381 1364 1364 1682 7682
No. of Towar Passes 1 2 1 2 1 2 1 2 1 2
Air/Uquld Rel'w lf&1 B39 b71 534 8t9 643 349 769 7J6 365
_
Influent WAD CN 223.8 220 174 23 197 22 779 73 104 35
E0luent WAD CN" 23.9 6.0 29 7.0 28 7.0 4J 17 40 14
At air to Iiqukf ratios 01 about 500-700, Influent WAD cyanide concentrations ranging from 174-224 mg/I were
eftectMely reduced to <t0.0 mgil In two passes of the tower packed with the 75mm media.
