Long
Division Director
RE: Fnrita No. I and No. 2 Coal Mines
File C-81-015
Dear Mr. Hoyl:
I'm glad you and Dee were able to come over and visit the Fruita Mine site with me on June 16. I
put up the Mine I.D. sign on your property near the sediment pond last week, as we discussed. I
hope it lasts longer than the last one did. As we discussed, the reclamation to be performed later
this fall will be in accordance with the plan outlined in my previous letter to you, dated March 12,
1998. The remedial reclamation of the Fruita Mine site will be done using bond forfeiture funds,
at no cost to you.
I have enclosed the June 24, 1998 BLM memo you requested, along with the GPS mapping
prepared by BLM. I took note of your interest in having the small opening on the Farmers-
Nearing mine closed at the time the reclamation work is done. The opening is immediately to the
east of the Fruita Mine site (see BLM sketch), and it would seem likely that AML funds could be
used efficiently to close the opening in conjunction with the Fruita Mine reclamation. I will pass
this request along to Paul Krabacher, who would be the AML project manager.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Sint rel~r~
l.!
Dan 'I'"~fathel4s •
Environment Protection Specialist
enclosure
cc: Paul Krabacher
Denver File
