Topsoil Pile 'B', Topsoil
Pile 'C", dzc eeaitary 1sadSil, and tLo cxpbaiv¢s stgraga silo were included in this
sampling scheme as separate units so at least one sample was collected from each of
'' those areas even though they represent a very small percentage (16 acres or 49b) of
the total reclaimed area. The allocadoa of sample sites is provided in Appendix D.
4.2 l:~YCI
Vegetative cover was estimated using the Point Intercept method with 100 foot
ttansects and a pin drop at two foot inWVak for 50 poinia per transect. Each transoct
comprised one sample. Daly herbaoeous vegetation, litter, rock, and bare ground
were recorded. Cover data for woody plant species was not collected.
4.3 .~
,''~ Production data was collected from one-meter square yrrad~ats. All atrrem
year atwve-ground herbaceous plant biomass (except for annuals and nedtious wends)
tooted within the plots was clipped. Samples were separated by life-frmm and were
not species specific. Production samples collected were oven dried at BO" C for at
least 2a betas to obtain a constant weight. Weights were then recorded m the nearest
O. L gram. Production data for woody plant species was not collated.
4.4 C ,h a~xt Ttalf-Chrnh nensity
Shrub density was only calculated for samples on the reclaimed area.
3
t~'
