have a significant impact on the quality of the human environment.
II. Background
The Munger Canyon mine is located in Garfield County, Colorado, about 20
miles north of Loma, Colorado, and has been operating since 1978. The
mine was permitted under the approved Colorado State program in
September, 1982. The mining plan for the Munger Canyon mine was
originally approved under the Federal lands program on December 22,
1982. Since this approval of the mining plan, there have been no mining
plan modifications.
On January 15, 1982, Sheridan Enterprises, Inc., formed a partnership
with Colorado Ute Electric Association called the Salt Creek Mining
Company. Salt Creek Mining Company now holds the permit originally
obtained for the operation by Sheridan Enterprises, Inc.
The permit revision area associated with this mining plan modification
contains approximately 273 acres, of which 110 acres are Federal lands.
Including the permit revision area associated with this mining plan, as
modified, the Munger Canyon mine permit area will contain approximately
1049 acres, of which 885 acres are Federal lands including 776 acres of
leased Federal coal. Upon approval of this mining plan, as modified, the
approved mining plan area for the Munger Canyon mine will contain
approximately 776 acres within Federal leases C-0122515 and C-0125516.
