Mr. Jim Tatum
Page 2
Response to Question No. 3:
We would recommend that concerns regarding potential effects to public health and safety
from possible fires/explosions at mine sites be directed to MSHA.
Response to Question No. 4:
This is a new concern and the Division will investigate it further. However, we need
additional information concerning the well. Could you please provide a map showing the
well's location relative to the exhaust fan site? Could you also let us know how deep the
well is, when you remember the well last exhibiting its historic water level, and when you
first noted it was dry? In addition, we would appreciate knowing what the historic water
level was, its range of seasonal fluctuation, and how much water the well was previously
capable of producing. Finally, could you identify on the map any other wells or springs
nearby that you know to have dried up since the mini began operating?
Response to Question No. 5:
There was an explosion at the Golden Eagle Mine on February 27, 1991. Please refer your
questions about any possible federal safety citations to MSHA.
Response to Question No. 6:
In order to better answer your question, we would like to request that a map showing the
property boundaries of your land be provided to us. If your land exists only within the
Rancho Escondido subdivision boundaries, the unit and lot numbers will be sufficient.
Please also let us know the date that you acquired your property.
Once we receive your information, we will analyze the proposed surface impacts from the
Golden Eagle Mine, and provide you with an additional response.
If you have any further questions, please call or write me.
Sincerely, ~/
-~,....
~~
:.,
Steve Renn€r
Coal Program Supervisor
SGR/yjb
cc: Dan Hernandez
Joe Dudash
Frank Johnson, Asst Attorney General
moss\yjb\wyofuel
