1 A. The upward movement is called floor
2 heave, and it's the weight of the strata pushing
3 down on the pillars, and if you have a soft bottom
4 sometimes the pillars will actually push the floor
5 material sideways and into the entries and the
6 entries will be forced up.
7 Q. Over on the side of the entries, would
e that result in an upward movement sometimes?
9 A. It's usually in the center of the
10 entries.
11 Q. That the open space?
12 A. Yes.
13 Q. That has no weight on it?
14 A. It's the open space where there is no
15 strata pushing down on the floor any longer.
16 Q. When that heaves in the middle of the
17 floor sometimes, do you see that-effect over on the
18 sides where the pillars might be that it would
19 heave up and move that sometimes?
20 A. You will see the strata, strata there
21 cracking. I never observed it do that, to that
22 extent. I suppose it's conceivable that it would.
23 Q. Is the exhaust from that fan over there

24 being monitored to determine its makeup?
25 A. It's sampled, I believe, monthly by
