• ~
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES
David H. Getches, Executive Director
Richard D. Lamm
Governor
DATE
MINED LAND RECLAMATION DIVISION
DAVID C. SHELTO N, Director
May 21, 1985
T0: Roadside/Cameo
FROM: Jim Pendleton
RE: Field Vis
)F
horn Coal on May 14, 1985
iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
999
I visited the mine site of the Roadside and Cameo mines, in the presence of
Fred Banta, Tom Gillis, and Steve Renner. We toured the subsidence monitoring
networks above second and third east panels with Henry Barbe. Significant
extentional cracking has occurred above the panels. The majority of the
cracking appears to align with the long axis of those panels. The operator
suggested that healing of the cracks was occurring. I photographed fresh
cracks in the subsidence monument networks for later comparison. A recent Ute
water utility pipeline break had occurred above the second east panel.
We also toured the old Roadside waste pile, which has been topsoiled and
seeded. The operator has topsoiled various portions to different depths, such
as six inches, twelve inches, and twenty-four inches of topsoil for
comparative purposes. Vegetation has taken hold nicely and the pile has
greatly improved in appearance since I had visited the site twelve months
ago. We also inspected the No. 1 waste pile at the Cameo mine site, which
appeared to remain in compliance. I photographed the site of the proposed
No. 2 waste rock pile at the Cameo site, having photographed the site of the
No. 3 waste pile on my visit last year.
JAP/ddt
cc: Tom Gillis
0551E
423 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203 Tel.
