The spill occurred at the construction site of the GCC Rio Grande, Inc. Portland cement
manufacturing facility and associated limestone quarry. As the facility is still under construction, cement
production activities have not yet started. This spill was reported this morning to the Colorado Department of
Public Health and Environment and has been assigned Spill Report #2007-08-03 by the Department.
The incitlent occurred on October 1, 2007 at around 1;30 pm and involved the spilling of approximately 25 - 30
gallons of hydraulic fluid during warranty maintenance work being performed on a piece of mobile equipment by a
vendor. GCC personnel responded immediately containing the spilled hydraulic fluid to the immediate area.
Absorbent pad materials from a nearby spill cleanup kit that were used for cleanup of the spilled hydraulic fluid.
These spill cleanup materials and a small amount of dirt exposed to the spilled hydraulic fluid were placed into
plastic bags. GCC will make arrangements to have these materials removed from the site by a contractor
licensed to perform this type of work.
No spilled material entered any surface waterways. Also, no spilled material left the permit area.
If you have question regarding this notice, please don't hesitate to call me at (719) 232-7130.
Respectfully Submitted,
Brian McGill
GCC Pueblo Plant
GCC Rio Grande, Inc.
10/2/2007
