We access our
homes via County Road 335, which also accesses the proposed coal
mining operation.
We are opposed to the project. Some of the reasons for our opposition
are:
1. The application is not clear or specific on many important
issues.
2. The "load-out" possibilities are not appropriate or possible.
There is a slim to none chance that the City of Glenwood Springs
will allow the use of the proposed load out there. It is totally
unacceptable to allow any truck traffic through Riverbend
Subdivision to load-out East of the subdivision.
3. The technology described to dispose of waste material inside
the mine is not proven, therefore cannot be relied upon.
~4- -Eotimty Road- 335 i-:r-currently =used-b.y approximately 30
households. With the current traffic the road is in constant
need of repair. There are several portions of the road that are
too narrow for a truck and a car to meet, coupled with the fact
that those portions are also cliffs along the river, makes the
road incompatable for heavy truck and homeowner traffic.
5. We are concerned that with the close proximity to the
Colorado River that the water used for the mining operation may
adversely effect the environment in the event of a spill
or leakage of unfiltered or untreated water.
6. We are concerned that the significant amount of heavy
equipment activity and noise from mining operations will
negatively effect wildlife in the area, particularly Bald Eagles,
Great Hlue Herons, deer and elk.
We urge you to carefully weigh these issues in the permit process.
Thank You.
.;~ ~ _s~~~ _ _. .
.~... - ~~iiw_a6i...ara~?~... _
