Box 199 <br />San Luia, Colorado <br />of Wildlife <br />81152 <br />Dear Mr. Albert: <br />0.4rtLE MOUNINN <br />GOLD COM7ANY <br />On October 16, a duck was accidentally shot and killed by the <br />security guard at the tailings pond. The guard left the tailings <br />area to make a routine check with mill supervisors. Upoa returning <br />to the tailings area, the guard noticed four ducks or.. the upper <br />impoundment. Several shots were fired in an attempt to scare the <br />ducks from the water. Inadveztently, one of the ducker was shot. <br />The other three ducks flew away. <br />Battle Mountain held a meeting with the security servic~3 to review <br />proper wildlife hazing methods to avoid this from happening in the <br />future. Shooting up and away from wildlife was reiterated. Also, <br />preventative measures, such as scaring water fowl before landing on <br />the water surface, were discussed.
