March 11, 1994 <br />To Whom It May Concern, <br />This is to certify that I know of and saw the irrigation <br />ditch, roads, trail a' and general terrain on what is now the Coal <br />View Ghost Ranch. It is much different now than when I viewed it <br />at various times years ago. I was born in Bear River. I used to <br />catch perch out of the pond (1'-7'deep) that was fed by the water <br />from the mine shaft located across the tracks from the mine <br />office trailer. <br />The irrigation ditch began up river from where the coal <br />loadout cable used to cross the river approx 300' up river from <br />sun coal stocking point on the east side of the Yampa river. It <br />then ran out to the point about where the small but is now <br />between the underground tube and the bridge tube. It then turned <br />back south passing behind the present pond and transformer poles, <br />proceeding close along the bank. It then proceeded between the <br />bank and the old river bed to the next meadow. <br />The old river bed was filled about 1963 with dirt from the <br />steep high bank which was located just north of the group of <br />trees below the transformer near the present shop area. <br />The bench at the upper Coal View mine was approx 200' <br />square. This was the location for the shop and steam boiler for <br />the mine.
