' _ - <br />t <br />The greatest threat of additional instability is associated with <br />the remainder of the historically wet spring season from now <br />through mid-May and the beginning of the most intense portion of <br />the thunderstorm season in July and August. It is anticipated <br />t that design alternatives for dealing with the problem may be <br />' developed during the next month and implemented during the <br />relatively dry "window" in late May and June. During the <br />' remainder of the spring season when the risk of further <br />instability is relatively high, fan equipment should be kept in a <br />' relatively well protected position in front of the existing fan <br />' house, and transportation of men and equipment across the base of <br />the debris chute between the portals should be closely monitored. <br />' Temporary alternative access for miners in the more protected <br />position immediately downslope of the entry and belt portals <br />' should be utilized during storms and fora period on the order of <br />one week after any storm that produces any significant runoff <br />from the mine bench area. Movement of men and equipment across <br />' the debris flow chute during storms and for the one week period <br />after should be discouraged, but where necessary, should be <br />' accomplished with the use of a "spotter" positioned on the <br />opposite side of the valley to warn mine personnel of the <br />movement of additional debris down the chute. <br />' 4.0 FOTDRE STDDIES AND LONG-TERM TREATMENT/REPAIR <br />' It is felt that the following general alternatives for treatment <br />merit at least some level of consideration.
