Cattany
Division Director
Natural Resource Trustee
Per your request I have reviewed the specimen label for Pathfinder II herbicide that
Cripple Creek and Victor intends to use to control Tamarisk or Salt Cedar. As far as their
ability to use this product on their property, as long as they are applying this product, or
any labeled product, in accordance with its labeling instructions the Division will
typically have no objections.
With respect to tamarisk control in general, the best proven treatment is to cut the trees
off close to the ground followed by a "cut stump" treatment with Garlon or Arsenal, two
other herbicide products. Pathfinder II may have been recently tested for its effectiveness
following a similar cut stump application. Since it is labeled for this application in the
treatment of tamarisk, I believe it is okay to follow this treatment regime. However,
close monitoring and follow-up should be practiced on treated areas to determine its
overall effectiveness. If they are not achieving the desired results they may want to try
Garlon or Arsenal instead.
Contact me with any questions.
Office of Office of Colorado
Mined Land Reclamation Active and Inactive Mines Geological Survey
