Peabody Coal Company has developed a two=.fol~n""fagem`en't3~p~~-) oriented <br />towards (1) short-term goals of eradication or significant reduction of <br />the alfalfa population; and, (2) long term control and management of the <br />remaining alfalfa stands. The short-term goals will be attained using <br />herbicides whereas the long-term goals will be attained by mowing, <br />grazing, or timely herbicide applications at light rates. The <br />Division believes these actions are prudent measures by Peabody Coal <br />Company to attain the required woody plan density standard. <br />As stated on page 20 of the original Seneca II findings document (August 10, ~~~wh <br />1981), "Peabody has committed to submit to the Division an <br />~E'fii~sy. The aht-Ralte~cba~ttas?r of this map <br />will continue for the duration of this permit renewal period. <br />To evaluate reclamation success, Peabody Coal Company has committed to a C~`~ <br />quantitative monitoring program for years 2, 4 and 7 following initial seeding ~~ <br />as outlined on pages 13-29a to -29e of the permit renewal application. The <br />data and results from this monitoring program will be submitted to the <br />Division during the winter following field measurements. <br />No proposed or listed threatened or endangered plant species have been <br />identified on or adjacent to the Seneca II Mine site. Therefore, the Division <br />finds that the mining activities will not affect the continued existence of <br />threatened or endangered plant species or result in the destruction or adverse <br />modification of their critical habitats. <br />With the continued acceptance of the above stipulation, the operation is in <br />Compliance with the requirements of this section. <br />XIII. Fish and Wildlife - Rules 2.04.11, 2.05.6(2) and 4.18. <br />Information pertaining to fish and wildlife resources is located in Volume V, <br />Tab 11 of the original permit application.
