Options were available to continue
mining alluvial deposits neon the Denver metropolitan area, but the parcels that
are available ore very small; or, to go to hard rock quarrying in the mountains
near the Denver metropolitan area. Western Paving is well equipped with machinery
and knowledgeable personnel to mine the alluvial deposits, so this direction was
chosen to supply the Standard 10,000 pound batch plant and the Madsen 8,000
pound batch plant, The Standard plant has been in the Denver location for ien
years now, and has produced some 6,000,000 tons of asphalt; and the Madsei
plant was moved to the Denver location in 1972 to augment the needed supply of
asphaltic materials. In 1973 Western Paving's production bumped 1,OOO,OOC tons,
with 1974 only down slightly.
The nearest source of high quolity, alluvial aspholt aggregates was
some fort~lmifes away from the Denver location, and the only economical wcy to
get the 10" x -200 pit run material to the Denver market was via rail. Thus, the
v site was chosen.
Much of the `P, equipment came from its Denver mining operation --
makes and models not available.
(1) Mining Operation.
