Fifteen transects will be initially evaluated for success comparison and statistical evaluation purposes.
The Snedecor-Cochran sample adequacy formula (Equation 2) will be utilized to determine the
adequate number of quadrats are sampled.
(2)
t'- SZ
N . _
min Ir~JCl2
Where:
N = required number of transects or quadrats.
d = desired level of precision (0.1 the level of precision for estimate of the
mean to be within ] 0% of the actual mean).
x = sample mean
SZ = sample variance
t = the a = .10 t-table value for a single tailed t-test with n-I degrees of
freedom.
Production Sampling
Production will be determined by hand clipping 0.5 square meter quadrats. A random number
between one and fifty will be selected to determine where the sampling point would be placed along
the fifty meter transect. The vegetation will be clipped by forb or grass species and separated by
annual or perennial life form, with the corresponding field "wet" weight recorded. The clipped
vegetation will be air dried for eight weeks and reweighed as a field "dry" weight. The dry weights
will be converted to pounds per acre for each respective sampled area. Fifteen transects will be
initially evaluated for success comparison and statistical evaluation purposes. The Snedecor-Cochran
sample adequacy formula (Equation 2) will be utilized to determine the adequate number of quadrats
are sampled.
Post Mining Success Demonstration
Post mining demonstration of revegetation success for vegetative cover and production within the
reclaimed area will be determined through the use of the Student t-Test (Equation 3). This statistical
test is used only when the reclaimed area sample mean value is less than the reference area mean
value.
(3)
t _ Q - X
5-
x
Where: t~ = Calculated t value
Q = 90% of the standard
x = Bond release block sample mean
sF = Standard error of the mean
s = Sample standard deviation
n = Sample size
