Monte Pascoe, Executive Director
MINED LAND RECLAMATION
423 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street
Denver, Colorado 80203 Tel. (303) 866-3567
David C. Shelton
Director
October 6, 1981
Mr. Bruce Collins
Grand Mesa Properties Corp.
P. 0. Box 58
Delta, Colorado 81416
RE: Notice of Intent for Lennox htesa Exploration Site
Dear Mr. Collins:
The Division has received Grand Mesa Properties' Notice of Intent for the
Lennox Mesa exploration site located in portions of sections 19 and 30,
T135 R90W, and portions of sections 23 and 24, T135 R91W, 6th P.M. As you
have been previously notified, the Division has determined that the pro-
posed exploration activities in this area constitutes a substantial distur-
bance to the natural land surface, and as such the operation must comply
with the performance standards of rule 4.21 and must be bonded prior to
initiation of exploration for the total estimated cost of reclamation. In
addition, the Division has identified the following concerns upon review
of the Notice of Intent which must be adequately addressed before the
Notice can be issued.
1. In order to verify Grand Mesa Properties' legal right to enter the
proposed exploration area, the Division will need a copy of that portion
of the lease option document referred to in the Notice of Intent which
grants Grand Mesa Properties permission to enter the area.
2. The Notice of Intent indicates that all contemplated exploration
activities will be conducted on or adjacent to existing roads or other
previous disturbances. The applicant needs to describe which specific
exploration activities will be conducted on areas adjacent to the ex-
isting roads and whether these activities will create new surface distur-
bances. If new surface disturbances will be created, the applicant must
describe the nature and extent of the disturbance. In addition, the appli-
cant needs to provide a description of the previously disturbed areas in
which exploration activities will take place, and the nature and extent
of new disturbances which will be created in these areas.
